Mixed Choral

The Domínico Americano Mixed Choral was founded in April 1989. Its first director was Excier Rodríguez. Since 1993 it has been under the baton of Professor Viterbo Peña. It is one of the Cultural Programs developed by the Instituto Cultural Domínico Americano (ICDA), through the Cultural Direction.

In its 30 years of existence, it has developed an extensive work in the Dominican Choral field, maintaining relevance through important participations in national and international choral festivals, inter-university festivals and presentations in institutions related to the ICDA.

Its participation has been very outstanding in shows presented at the National Theater such as the tribute to maestro Julio Alberto Hernández: “Julio Alberto, seis en punto de una tarde de otoño”, Cantata Blanco y Negro, Cantata Navideña with the National Symphony Orchestra (OSN) at the Santo Domingo Country Club and at the Eduardo Brito National Theater.

The ICDA Mixed Choral also performed in the staging of the cantata “Carmina Burana” by Carf Orff along with the OSN and the National Choir, as well as in the show “Tres Tiempos de Danza” -together with the National Classical Ballet- and the Mass to Santa Teresa, in the Catedral Primada de América, officiated by Cardinal Nicolás de Jesús López Rodríguez.

In the international arena, the Mixed Choral was invited to the island of Curaçao to celebrate the Janwe Mass (October 2002), obtaining a resounding success, which later assured them other invitations to participate in international festivals in that city, where they returned in 2008, invited to the International Choral Festival of the Curaçao Choral Federation. In 2010, they represented the Dominican Republic at the VIII Festival of Sacred Music in Pamplona, Colombia.

For several years it has participated in the celebration of the Medical Week of Barahona, invited by the branch of the Colegio Médico Dominicano in that province. Every year the Choral attends as special guest to the celebration of the patron saint festivities of Cabral, Barahona and Neyba. They have also sold out an extensive program of uninterrupted presentations in hospitals, nursing homes, churches, shopping malls and other institutions, always with the aim of strengthening the choral movement in the Dominican Republic.
