Male Choir

Founded in 1990 by Professor Mario Martínez as a Cultural Program of the Instituto Cultural Domínico-Americano to support choral music and at the same time pay a well-deserved tribute to the distinguished Dominican composer Don Julio Alberto Hernández. Currently directed by Henry Cordero, since 2006, who has a degree in Music, mention in Music Education, and who is in charge of the arrangements of the pieces that are part of its repertoire.

It has won several times first places in choral music events held in the Dominican Republic. Also noteworthy are its Gala concerts in the Regina Angelorum Chapel, such as the Anniversary of the Foundation of the City of Santo Domingo and the show “Tres tiempos de Danza” performed at the National Theater “Eduardo Brito”, as well as the Lyric Choral Concert of the Conservatorio Nacional de Música.

Internationally, it has accepted invitations to the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, the International Cultural Festival of the University of Ponce in Puerto Rico, the Festival de Pascua Grande in Aruba, the International Festival of Margarita Island, the International Choir Festival Inocente Carreño in Venezuela and the International Choir Festival of Curaçao.

In 2005, it was the host choir at the third Choir Festival of the Choral Federation of the Caribbean and Central America sponsored by the ICDA. Its participation has been very relevant in the “Encuentros Corales José de Jesús Ravelo” carried out by the Ministerio de Educación de República Dominicana and it was also important when accompanying the artist Ángela Carrasco in her concert at Teatro Nacional “Eduardo Brito” in 2016.

It has offered concerts at Casa San Pablo, Palacio de Bellas Artes, Palacio Nacional and the “Enriquillo Sánchez” Auditorium of the Ministerio de Cultura, as well as participating in choir meetings organized by Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) and Banco Popular Dominicano.

On a more frequent basis, it usually offers concerts in Librería Cuesta, the Central Atrium of Agora Mall and in several Catholic parishes during their patron saint festivities in Haina, San Pedro, Monte Plata, Santiago, and Bayaguana, to name a few. They have also performed at the International Book Fair, the Cultural Festival of Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU), Nueva Acrópolis and at the Patron Saint Festivities of several cities throughout the Dominican Republic.

The group maintains a program of presentations in companies, related institutions and in activities of the Cultural Direction, with the objective of demonstrating its dedication to the development of high quality choral singing.
