The
essential role of the educator is to accompany and
serve as a facilitator in the process of teaching
and learning, in order to foster situations that
are favorable to the construction of new knowledge
and to the development of the values and attitudes
promoted by the new curriculum. He is in the position
of a democratic person, critical and solidary, capable
of interacting with the learners and the other persons
in his environment, in order to, through a creative
and participatory process, construct new knowledge
within the framework of the ends and objectives
of the Dominican educational project.
The
graduate will master the key aspects of
the language: Grammar, phonetics, vocabulary, and
syntax. He will be able to communicate fluently
in both the oral and the written form of English,
and will have a knowledge of the culture and the
literature of the English-speaking peoples. In order
to raise the quality of the teaching of English
as a second language in the Dominican Republic,
the graduate of this career will have mastery of
the English tongue, a good knowledge of the techniques
of the teaching of English in all its branches,
and the a good foundation in the area of education.
These graduates will also be conscious of the psychology
of children and of adults at the different stages
in the learning of English.
He
will be able to occupy a position as English
teacher at all the levels of the educational system
in the following areas: Pre-School, elementary school,
middle school, and high school, in both the public
and the private sectors.
The
curriculum is composed of three integrated
sequences of the subjects comprised in:
