The Lincoln Library was founded in April of 1995, to serve the schools of the Instituto Cultural Domínico-Americano (ICDA): The Pre-Escolar Domínico-Americano (PD-A): the Colegio Domínico-ericano C D-A); the Language School (Escuela de Idiomas – EI); the Escuela Técnica Superior (ETS); and the Universidad Domínico-Americana (UNICDA). Together with the C RA, the Lincoln Library has as its goal to support the quality of the education offered by the different educational programs of the Institute, and also to serve the community.
The Lincoln Library has a collection of approximately 13,300 documents of different kinds: Scientific, technical, humanistic, and recreational. The Audio-Visual Resources Center (Centro de Recursos Audiovisuales – C RA) is part of the Library, and is in charge of lending audiovisual equipment, and of offering technical assistance to the users of said equipment. These are some examples of the audiovisual equipment in the C RA: Multimedia projectors, VC R’s, transparency projectors for videos and stills, filming camera, radios with cassette and CD players, etc.
The CRA also operates two air-conditioned projection rooms, equipped with VC R’s and television sets.

Lending
Policy
The Lincoln Library is open to the public; however, the lending policy (by which books can be taken home) applies only to students at the Preescolar Domínico-Americano, the Colegio Domínico-Americano, the ETS, and UNICDA, as well as to teachers from all the educational programs and ICDA employees.
All documents are lent out for a seven-day period. Reference books, reserve material, new magazines, and newspapers cannot leave the library. Borrowed documents can be renewed twice at most, personally or by phone, during working hours, as long as they have not been reserved by another user.
All borrowed documents can be returned by being placed in one of the two drop-in boxes intended for that. One of these boxes is in the office of the primary school supervisor (Ing. Pedro Cairo); the other is in the C RA.
Students registered at the Escuela Técnica Superior and at UNICDA will be charged a fine of RD$5.00 per day, Saturdays included, after the seven-day loan period is over. They will also be charged the cost of any lost documents, as well as an additional fee to cover the cost of the acquisition, technical processing, and date due cards.
The use of the Children’s Room, the projection rooms, and the electronic equipment is regulated by specific procedures; information about this is available in the corresponding units. |
