Dr.
Amarilis Rodríguez de Durán, is a lawyer. She studied
international law and diplomacy. She is also an actress and a theater director,
and an active member of the Compañía Nacional del Teatro de
Bellas Artes.Her work experience includes having been Assistant Director of the International Relations Department and Assistant Head of the National Committee to the UNESCO for the Department of Education; also Cultural Sub-Director of the Cultural Department of the Secretaría de Estado de Relaciones Exteriores (Department of Foreign Affairs). She has also done considerable work as a university professor: Professor and Head of the School of Diplomacy of the Universidad Católica de Santo Domingo, Professor at the Universidad APEC, Universidad de la Tercera Edad (UTE), and of the Unviersidad Dominico-Americana, UNICDA. As an experienced actress and director, she has been honored several times with the following prizes: “El Casandra”, “El Dorado”, and the “Talía de Plata”. Her picture is in the “Gallery of the Dominican Theater” of the Teatro Nacional, and she has earned recognition by the Banco Central among the “Most Important Dominican Actresses”. She has directed several professional and experimental theater groups. At present, she is directing the theater group of the Universidad de la Tercera Edad, UTE. Throughout her professional career, she has successfully staged several presentations through her professional theater company, “Producciones Amarilis Rodríguez”. She is married to Mr. Tomás Durán, marketing specialist, and the father of her children Deniel Omar and Dashiel Amarilis Durán Rodríguez. She has worked at the ICDA since 1990, and as head of the Cultural Department since 1991. |
