Basic and Advanced English Programs for Adults and Adolescents
How Can I Know my Level of English?
Playful Learning Program for children ages 5 through 12
The Spanish Program
Customized Language Teaching Services (Tutorials)
Extension Programs

The objective of the Language School (LS) is to develop the student’s communicative competence in English and in Spanish as foreign languages. The skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the target language are equally stressed in all the programs. The student must acquire communicative competence in his/her second language in different settings: work, school, and daily living.

The language programs at the Institute are organized in academic cycles, with classes available all year round. This organization gives the student short-term objectives that can be evaluated immediately. It also offers him a wide variety of professors, and the opportunity to continuously use his creative skill with the new language.

The Language School offers the following programs:

1.The Basic and Advanced English Program for Adults and Juniors

The Junior program is offered for adolescents from 13 to 16 years of age.
Levels:
10 basic levels
4 advanced levels
2 enrichment levels

The adult program is offered for students who are 17 years old or above.
Levels:
9 basic levels
5 advanced levels

2 enrichment levels
New Course: Adult English Pronunciation, for students from the intermediate level on.

These programs provide instruction in English from a beginner’s level to an advanced and/or conversational level. Both students who have never studied English and those who have a certain knowledge of the language can find a level of instruction that is appropriate to their needs.

Completion of the program offers the student a functional knowledge of the four basic skills, that is to say, speaking, understanding, reading, and writing. It also develops in the student a solid foundation for the subsidiary skills of pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar. At the same time, the student acquires an understanding of how American and Dominican cultures are alike and how they differ, as well as an appreciation of the value and the uniqueness of each.

How can I know my level of English?

In order to be placed in a level that is appropriate to what they already know, prospective students who have some knowledge of English must take a level exam. This exam is absolutely free, and it is offered every cycle during the period just before registration, that is to say, in March, June, August, and November. The dates of these level exams are advertised in the newspaper.

Level exams begin every hour on the hour beginning at 12 noon.  The last exam begins at 7pm.  Latecomers are not allowed to enter the exam room.

2) Playful Learning Program for children between ages 5 and 12

The Playful Learning Program was designed for children between 5 and 12 years of age, and is based on the academic calendar for elementary school. Playful Ready for Juniors (PRJ) is a course for new students, children 10 through 12 years old.  It is taught to prepare these children for the Juniors program.

All the Playful Learning courses are divided into three cycles of three months each. The objective of this program is to understand the uses of language, as well as the written and oral forms used in communication.

This program, which was created in 1993, has as its purpose the teaching of English in a fun manner, through games and activities. Students are grouped by age, and the methodology and teaching techniques are adapted to their chronological age. Playful Learning offers three regular cycles a year. During the summer recess, we offer a course for new students.

The levels offered are for:

• Children of preschool age
• Children of primary school age
• Pre-teens (Middle School age)
