Educational Counseling Office (ECO)

Who are you?


The Educational Information and Resources Branch of the U.S. Department of State supports a network of over 500 EducationUSA Advising Centers which promote higher education around the world by offering accurate, comprehensive, objective and, timely information about educational opportunities in the United States, and by providing guidance given by experienced counselors to qualified individuals on how best to avail themselves of those opportunities.

The Educational Counseling Office, known by its initials as ECO, is part of the EducationUSA network.  It offers information to all those who wish to study abroad in programs for an Associate’s degree, a Bachelor’s degree, and in graduate or postgraduate studies It offers the following computerized tests through the Prometric Testing Center: The TOEFL, the GRE, the USMLE, the PMI among others. We also promote educational and cultural exchanges, and administer the ICDA scholarships.

What do we offer?

Information and counseling about public and private universities, graduate studies, master’s programs, doctorates, correspondence courses, intensive English courses in the United States, financial help, scholarships, summer programs, junior colleges in the liberal arts, music, and other short courses.

ICDA scholarship program: This program was developed by the ICDA as part of its assistance to the community program. It is designed to benefit low-income honor students.

Exchange program for students from Dominican and foreign educational institutions: This program promotes participating students from both countries with cultural exchanges, as well the possibility of learning and improving English and Spanish, as well as attaining native-like fluency.

We also promote Summer Exchange Programs from the USA and Canada in conjunction with the ODTE (Oficina de Turismo Educativo).

Counseling and Testing: For those who wish to study abroad, especially in the United States, we give the computerized tests mentioned above (TOEFL, GRE, GED, USMLE) and independent exams. We also give out, COMPLETELY FREE, brochures that explain the procedures for these tests.

The Prometric Testing Center is open from MONDAY through FRIDAY. The schedule for taking the exams is:

 9: AM to 1: PM, 1: PM and 5: PM
And the SECOND SATURDAY of each month only in the mornings.
